Sensex sheds 205 points, Nifty closes below 9400, Adani Ports top Nifty loser

Benchmark indices NSE Nifty closed at 9386 down by 52 points, whereas BSE Sensex closed lower by 205 points at 30,365 on Tuesday.

BSE Mid-cap index closed lower by 1.56% at 14,240.88. BSE Small-cap index closed lower by 1.89% at 14,769.86. India VIX closed higher by 8.9% at 12.2 levels.

Maruti Suzuki India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Eicher Motors, Wipro and HCL Technologies are the top Nifty Gainers, whereas Adani Ports, Cipla, Coal India and Tata Power are the top Nifty Losers.

PSU Banks were trading in red on the bourses whereas the private banks were trading in green. The top banking losers are Bank of India, Vijaya Bank, Allahabad Bank and Syndicate Bank.

The BSE Realty Index was the top losing index at the end of Tuesday’s trading session. HDIL and DLF were the top contributors to the index losses. HDIL closed down by 7.4% at Rs 83 per share, whereas DLF closed down by 3.6% at Rs 197.65 per share.

On the contrary, the Auto index was the only index that closed in green at the end of the day. Maruti Suzuki India was the top contributor to the index gains. It closed up by 2.7% at Rs 6880.30 per share. Other stocks in the index such as Mahindra & Mahindra, Eicher Motors and Hero Motocorp also closed in green.

Reliance Communications Ltd closed lower by over 6% at Rs 27.95 per share on BSE. The worries over company’s dollar-denominated debt have risen in the markets. The leading business daily has reported that the company do not have enough foreign exchange revenue to mitigate the risks arising from the currency fluctuations.

Meanwhile, the rupee fell as much as 0.54 percent to 64.89 against the U.S. dollar, its lowest since April 3, compared to the previous close of 64.54.

Jindal Steel & Power, Sequent Scientific and Bharat Gears were some of the companies which announced its financial results on Tuesday.
