Nifty closes above 9500 first time ever; ITC, TCS, SBI and Reliance lead the rally

Nifty PSU Bank index led the market rally on Tuesday gaining as much as 2.4% during the trade. While the Nifty closed above 9500 for the first time ever, Sensex closed above its crucial 30500 mark. The Nifty Bank and Nifty Midcap also closed at their all-time closing highs.

Benchmark index Nifty 50 closed at 9512 level higher by 66 points or 0.7%, whereas the 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 30582 level higher by 260 points or 0.8% on Tuesday.

ITC, TCS, SBI and Reliance contributed 45% to the Nifty gains, with IOC and Indian Hotels being the top Nifty gainers. 

The broader indices underperformed the major equity indices, BSE Midcap and BSE Small-cap indices gained 0.2% and 0.3% respectively.

There were 853 advances, 791 declines and 307 unchanged stocks on NSE, reflecting fairly bullish undertone floating in the market.

The stock of Voltamp Transformers jumped over 8% on Tuesday as the company on Monday reported a net profit at Rs 22.65 crore for the quarter ended March 2017, as against Rs 19.21 crore for the same quarter of the previous year, as per BSE filing. The stock closed at Rs 1287 higher by Rs 78 or 6.5%.
