Sensex crossed 31K mark for the first time ever; Nifty touched all-time high

The INDIA VIX is up 2% at 10.66. BSE Sensex is trading at 30985 up 235 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 9577 up 67 points.

Sensex has touched all-time high of 31034 levels higher by 284 points. Nifty touched its all-time high of 9592 levels.

Reliance Industries Limited is the top contributor to the Sensex gains. However, the sharp surge of HDFC in the post-lunch hour on Friday pushed the Sensex above the 31000 mark for the first time.

There are 1225 advances, 382 declines and 342 unchanged stocks on NSE reflecting strong positive undertone in the market.

At 2 PM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 30985 up 235 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 9577 up 67 points. A total of 37 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 37 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

The broader market indices are performing in line with the major indices in the market. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 1.36% at 14419, while BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 1.38% at 15053.

Some buying activity is seen in Capital Goods, Realty, Metal, Pharma, Auto, while Healthcare is showing weakness on BSE.

Tata Steel, Hindalco, Vedanta Limited, Bharti Airtel and Asian Paints are among the gainers, whereas IOC, Lupin, CIPLA, Sun Pharma and Bank of Baroda are losing sheen on NSE.

The INDIA VIX is up 2% at 10.66.
