Sensex settles 106 points higher, Nifty closes below 9500, ITC top Nifty gainer

Benchmark indices NSE Nifty closed at 9438 up by 10 points, whereas BSE Sensex closed higher by 106 points at 30,570 on Monday.

BSE Mid-cap index closed lower by 1.21% at 14,467.10. BSE Small-cap index closed lower by 1.14% at 15,054.14. India VIX closed lower by 0.8% at 11.2 levels.

ITC, Bharti Infratel, HCL technologies, L&T and Tata Motors are the top Nifty Gainers, whereas Lupin, SBI, GAIL and Ambuja Cements are the top Nifty Losers.

The Fast Moving Consumer Goods Index was trading in green territory throughout the day. ITC was the biggest contributor to the index gains. ITC closed at Rs 303.45 per share, up by 6.14%. Also, rice stocks such as LT Foods and Kohinoor Foods extended gains.

On the contrary, at the end of the day, major PSU banking stocks slipped in trade. SBI was the biggest contributor to the index losses. It closed at Rs 294.45 per share, down by 4.45%. Other PSU banking stocks such as Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank and Corporation Bank were also trading in the red.

Major aviation stocks such as Jet Airways, Spicejet, Taal Enterprises and InterGlobe Aviation extended losses. Jet Airways closed at Rs 480.80 per share, down by 7.40%.

Bank of India, Pincon Spirits, Venky’s (India), Ruchira Papers, Hindustan Foods and Prakash Industries were some of the companies which announced its financial results on Monday.
