Sensex below 31k for the first time since May 29, 2017

Nifty PSU Bank index extended its morning losses. The index is trading lower by around 3.24% at 3332 level. Syndicate Bank is top loser in the index trading lower by 4.5% at Rs 73.05 per share. PNB is also trading lower by more than 4% at Rs 137.7 per share.

The advance declines ratio stood at 363:1253 at NSE with bears dominating the market.

At 1 PM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 31045 down 92 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 9525 down 49 points. Sensex has slipped below 31000 for the first time since May 29, 2017. A total of 17 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 53 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading down 0.87% at 14457, while BSE Small-cap Index is trading down 1.18% at 15200.

Some buying activity is seen in FMCG, Consumer Durables, Healthcare and Telecom while Oil & Gas, Energy, Finance, are showing weakness on BSE.

GAIL, Bharti Airtel, ITC, IOC and Bharti Infratel are among the gainers, whereas BPCL, Bank of Baroda, Zee Entertainment, Indiabulls Housing Finance and Axis Bank are losing sheen on NSE.

The INDIA VIX is up 7.33% at 12.4.
