साल 2017 के पहले 6 महीनों में बड़े स्टॉक्स के मुकाबले छोटे स्टॉक्स का प्रदर्शन बेहतर रहा है। 6 महीने के दौरान जहां सेंसेक्स 18 फीसदी और बीएसई मिडकैप इंडेक्स 25 फीसदी बढ़े हैं, वही बीएसई के स्मॉलकैप इंडेक्स में करीब 32 फीसदी की बढ़ोतरी दर्ज की गई है। इस दौरान कुछ छोटे स्टॉक्स ने 6 गुना तक का रिटर्न दिए हैं।
एक्सपर्ट्स का कहना है कि बेहतर मैक्रो एन्वायरमेंट, बड़े स्टॉक्स के वैल्युएशन बढ़ने और घरेलू इन्वेस्टर्स का पार्टिसिपेशन बढ़ने से छोटे स्टॉक्स में तेजी आई है। हालांकि छोटे स्टॉक्स में जोखिम होता है, इसलिए रिसर्च करने के बाद लॉन्ग टर्म के नजरिए से निवेश करना बेहतर है।.

6 जुलाई को इंट्रा-डे कारोबार में बीएसई का स्मॉलकैप इंडेक्स 22 जून 2017 को बनाए गए 15,811 के अपने रिकॉर्ड को तोड़ते हुए 15,877 के रिकॉर्ड हाई पर पहुंच गया।.
